About

CIBA is a Los Angeles basketball training company founded in 2020. We serve elite amateur and professional athletes. The firm runs on three commitments: an evaluation before any programming, a dedicated trainer for every player and recurring sessions matched to your position and calendar.

The People
Behind The Program

You're matched with one trainer for the duration of your program. The roster stays small by design so each trainer can carry their players across the full calendar.

Rico Grier

Founder & CEO

Rico Grier

Rico Grier prepares athletes to compete at the highest levels of the game, on the court and off it. A former professional player who concluded his career in 2012, he has spent more than a decade since guiding athletes from middle school through college and into the NBA, shaping the development path, the level of competition they face and the decisions that surround both. Grier works with athletes and their families on the full picture: what a player has to be ready for at the next level, and the long-term strategy, partnerships and structure that protect the career built around it. He has managed the trajectory of Rob Dillingham since middle school, overseeing recruiting strategy, name, image and likeness positioning, brand alignment and the transition to the professional level, and he currently manages Dillingham's partnerships with Nike and Fanatics. Grier has also executed commercial deals with Overtime Elite and Urban Skin Rx, a skincare brand that later sold for more than $30 million. He builds the infrastructure elite programs run on. At Donda Academy he structured the national competition schedule, secured revenue streams that supported the program and verified academic alignment with NCAA certification standards to protect athlete eligibility. With families he establishes family office structures in which legal, financial, marketing and advisory partners work in coordination while the athlete and family retain strategic control. His approach is structural and long term. He does not manage moments; he engineers careers.

Trainer

Spencer Levy

Spencer Levy leads skill development and designs the on-court curriculum athletes run through. He applies the same development standard at every level, working with professional, collegiate, high school and grassroots players. Levy spent more than three years as director of operations and skills trainer at Jordan Lawley Basketball, where he built individualized training plans for NBA, WNBA, FIBA and elite youth players and ran day-to-day operations, staff and gym scheduling. His work with professional and collegiate athletes extends past the court to film breakdown, analytics, individual player review, opponent scouting reports and mental training, including one-on-one counseling and situational planning. He also served three years as an assistant coach at the California Institute of Technology, conducting practices, instructing players on technique and strategy, handling advanced scouting and analyzing footage to identify areas of improvement for individual players and the team. Levy founded TheCheckUp in 2018 and oversees product development, marketing, sales and finance for the company. He earned a bachelor's degree in American studies from Occidental College in 2016, where he played varsity basketball for three seasons. His philosophy is development first. The work happens behind the scenes and the athlete gets the credit.
